About Quantitative Research

Quantitative Research (QR) is an expert quantitative modelling group in J.P. Morgan, as well as a leader in financial engineering, data analytics, statistical modelling and portfolio management. As a global team, QR partners with traders, marketers and risk managers across all products and regions, contribute to sales and client interaction, product innovation, valuation and risk management, inventory and portfolio optimization, electronic trading and market-making, and appropriate financial risk controls.

Opportunity

We are looking for a quant to join our Prime Finance team in Mumbai. The Prime Finance QR team's mission is to develop and maintain sophisticated mathematical models, cutting-edge methodologies and infrastructure to value and hedge financial transactions of vanilla flow products. You will be working with trading desks, product managers and technology to develop analytical tools and quantitative trading models. In addition, you will be working with different control functions to make sure the business is operating under established regulatory requirements.

Your Impact

Risk & Pricing

  • Develop & enhance pricing models for valuing Delta 1 products;
  • Improve the risk & pricing workflow for the desks;
  • Develop software frameworks for analytics and their delivery to systems and applications.

Trading Optimization and Analytics

  • Optimization of collateral and inventory under various constraints arising from regulatory, contractual, capital, etc. requirements on one hand and expected duration, internal opportunities, etc. on the other;
  • Develop mathematical/statistical models for Prime desks to enhance business revenue and profitability for stock borrow-loan, cash and synthetic financing books;
  • Devise solutions for systematic book management, improving the overall stability of our collateral and its respective uses;
  • Deliver quantitative analytics to the desks that drive decision making;
  • Work with the content team to distribute interesting findings for market colour;
  • Maintain adequate control functionality;

About You

  • You understand the different types of risk and you can discuss in detail ways of managing these risks;
  • You’re interested in applying agile development practices in a front-office trading environment;
  • You demonstrate quantitative and problem-solving skills as well as research skills;
  • You understand advanced mathematics arising in financial modelling – probability theory, optimization;
  • You have excellent practical data analytics skills on real data sets gained through hands-on experience, including familiarity with methods for working with large data and tools for data analysis (pandas, NumPy, sci-kit-learn);
  • You demonstrate proficiency in code design and programming skills, with a primary focus on Python;
  • You quickly grasp business concepts outside the immediate area of expertise and adapt to rapidly changing business needs;
  • You’re attentive to detail and easily adaptable;
  • Your excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, can engage and influence partners and stakeholders; You are good at communicating concepts and ideas, also via documentation, and you are keen to defend their validity and tailor messages to different audiences; enthusiastic about knowledge sharing and collaboration;

Desirables

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MSc or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, etc.
  • Knowledge of programming languages in addition to Python (C++, Java etc )
  • Financial knowledge of Delta 1, Equity Derivatives, Inventory Management is a plus;
  • Experience with data schemas and data structures would be useful in this role;
  • Orientation towards the careful system and solution design and implementation;
  • Robust testing and verification practices;
